The New iPad 3 Shows Incorrect battery Levels While Charging

The New iPad Continues Charging Even After It Hits 100 %

This report comes from the President of DisplayMate, Dr. Raymond Soneira. According to Dr. Raymond, he conducted some tests on the revolutionary new iPad to check the retina display. His tests provided a comparison of the new iPad's display with the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4.

While running some tests on the new iPad's battery, Soneira observed that batteries do not actually reach full charge when 100% is shown, and takes up to an extra hour of charging is required before reaching full capacity.  Soneira found that the iPad continued to draw 10 watts of electricity for two hours after indicating 100% charge, then began to reduce power for an additional ten minutes until a precipitous decline in power draw signaled the termination of the charging cycle.

Following is the explanation Dr. Soneira gave for The New iPad's Battery Issue :

The charge indicator on all mobile devices is based on a mathematical model of the charge rates, discharge rates, and recent discharge history of the battery. It uses this information to estimate how much running time is left. It’s actually rather difficult to do because most batteries degrade slowly as they discharge and then tend to surprise with a precipitous decline near the end.
So there is something wrong with the battery charge mathematical model on the iPad. It should not say 100% until it stops recharging and goes from the full recharging rate of about 10 watts to a trickle charging rate of about 1 watt. Otherwise the user will not get the maximum running time that the iPad is capable of delivering, which is listed in my article.

There has not been any official announcement from Apple regarding the battery issues yet but hopefully it will be fixed with a software upgrade.

Apple Launched the new iPad on March 16 and sold over 3 million units in 3 days. This according to Apple was the strongest iPad launch ever.
