This tutorial will help your downgrade your iPhone firmware from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1. Apple released iOS 5.1 a month ago and those who have accidentally updated their iPhones to iOS 5.1 and lost the jailbreak. There is however a tethered jailbreak available for iOS 5.1 but if you don't like plugging in your iPhone every time your iPhone reboots, then you can downgrade your firmware from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.0.1. There are certain limitations however. To be able to downgrade your iPhone, you need to have your device's shshs blobs saved. One way to check is, launch Cydia and if you see SHSH saved for iOS 5.0.1 on the home page of Cydia then you can downgrade your iPhone. If you don't see shsh information, then DO NOT PROCEED.

IMP: This method of downgrading an iPhone works only if you have saved shsh blobs. One way to check this would be to launch Cydia and if Cydia shows

SHSH for iOS 5.0.1, 5.1 - It means that you can downgrde your iPhone from 5.1 to 5.0.1

If Cydia doesnt show any shsh blob saved information then you cannot downgrade your device.

Assuming that Cydia has your device's SHSH blobs, we'll proceed.

Step 1 : Connect your iPhone to the computer and take a backup of your device by using iTunes Device Backup. Launch iTunes and once you see your device listed in iTunes, right click on it and select the option bakup iPhone. iTunes should backup your device now. Once done, proceed with the below steps.

Step 2 : Download iFaith and Tiny Umbrella

Step 3 : To download all available shsh blobs for your device, launch Tiny Umbrella. Windows 7 users must run it as administrator by right clicking on it and selecting the option, run as administrator.

Step 4 : Wait for Tiny Umbrella to list your device and then click on your device and select 'Save SHSH'

Step 5 : Wait for Tiny Umbrella to fetch all the available SHSH blobs and list them.

Step 6 : Once you have 5.0.1 shsh blobs saved, close tiny umbrella.

Step 7 : Launch iFaith. Windows 7 users, make sure you launch iFaith with administrative access by right clicking on it and selecting the option - Run as administrator.

Step 8 : In iFaith select the option 'Build *signed* IPSW w/Blobs', now iFaith will ask you to show the path where shsh blobs are saved.

Step 8 :  The default shsh blob save directory would be C:\Users\your username\.shsh Show iFaith the shsh directory path and proceed.

Step 9 : If you already have iOS 5.0.1 downloaded in your computer then select Browse For IPSW. Don't worry if you don't have iOS 5.0.1 in your computer. Simply select the second option Download It For Me.

Step 10 : From iFaith menu, select create signed firmware. iFaith will cook a custom firmware which can be installed on your device. Sit back as this is going to take a while depending on your computer's performance.

Step 8 : Once Signed firmware is created, you should be able to see it on your desktop.

Step 9 : You need to put your iPhone into Pwned DFU mode inorder to downgrade your device.

Step 10 : Follow the instructions on iFaith to get into DFU mode.

Steps To Enter DFU Mode

Step 1 : Connect your iphone to the computer and Switch off your iPhone
Step 2 : Press Power button for 3 seconds
Step 3 : Without releasing the power button, press and hold the home button for 10 seconds.
Step 4 : Now release the power button but continue holding the home button for 20 seconds.
You are in DFU mode now.

Step 11 : Once in DFU mode, ifaith will automatically detect your iPhone and use limera1n to get your device into Pwned DFU mode.

Step 12 : Once in Pwned DFU mode, close iFaith and launch iTunes.

Step 13 : iTunes will alert you that an iPhone has been detected in recovery mode. That's normal so just ignore it. Hold on shift key and click on restore. iTunes will pop up a window to show the path where ipsw file is located. Point iTunes to your desktop where iFaith has created a custom firmware.

Step 14 : iTunes will now verify your firmware and install it on your device. Once done, your device should reboot.

Congratulations! You have successfully downgraded your iPhone firmware from iOS 5.1 to iOS 5.1
