New MacBook Air Likely To Hit In Q3 This Year Competing With Intel's UltraBook
Apple is planning to launch a Macbook Air that will be priced at $799 somewhere in third Quarter this year. The sudden $200 drop is in response to compete with Intel's Ultrabook that is manufacturing low cost ultrathin notebook PCs reports Digitimes
Although Acer has recently reduced its ultrabook shipment target, Intel continues to aggressively push ultrabooks and is aiming to have the devices priced at US$699 in the second half of the year. However, if Intel is unable to bring down ASPs to its goal, the price gap between ultrabooks and the US$799 MacBook Air may further postpone the time ultrabooks become standardized, the sources noted - Digitimes
Its going to be quite a challenging task for Apple to have a $200 price cut on the MacBook Air. Apple adopts a very limited flexibility when it comes to bringing down prices and by looking at the currect performance of Macbook Airs and Macbook Pro which are performing exceptionally well and generating huge revenue to Apple, its a tough call for Apple to make in order to increase the sales of Macbooks.
