Hidden Feature Of Jailbroken iPhones And iPads - Palm OS Like Safety Switch

Hidden Feature Of Jailbroken iPhones And iPads - Palm OS Like Safety Switch

chpwn-cydia-jailbreak

Prominent  jailbreak tweaks developer, chpwn has tweeted that he has discovered a safety switch in Jailbroken devices. According to Grant Paul aka chpwn, mobile substrate addon has a Palm OS inspired safety switch that disables extensions to run while rebooting. This will basically help you in identifying any problems in your device start up. This feature was incorporated by Cydia developer Jay Freeman Saurik.

If you want to experience the safety switch, all you have to do is press and hold the volume up button while your device is rebooting. This will disable all the Cydia tweaks and make your phone slightly faster but there's a catch. Enabling it will not start any Cydia tweak. In order to enable the tweaks, you'll have to reboot your device.

Apple Stole Noise Cancellation Feature - Noise Free Wireless Suing Apple

Apple Stole Noise Cancellation Feature - Noise Free Wireless Suing Apple
Apple-full2
Apple is known for protecting its intellectual property rights by dragging the violators to the courts of law and suing them and forcing a ban on those products that infringe its patented designs. According to Apple, its not just suing the competitors but protecting the intellectual property rights of Apple which is mandatory. Following the recent patent infringements by various Samsung products, Apple seems to have got quite a good hold with quality lawyers fighting against the bad guys. It was also heard that Google is uniting with Samsung to fight against Apple's law suits against Galaxy Nexus.

Seems like there is someone strong enough to bring Apple to the courts of law for stealing the design and technology. Noise Free Wireless has accused Apple of using (stealing) noise cancellation technology that is currently used in iPhones. It has filed a patent violation lawsuit against Apple for using its patented and copyrighted design for noise cancellation that was registered back in 2007 US Patent No. 7742790 The company claims that Apple stole the idea of noise cancellation which was once demonstrated by Noise free to Apple in September 2007.
"On further information and belief, Apple provided Audience with Noise Free's confidential trade secret information to assist Audience in delivering a noise cancellation solution that was similar and/or identical to the solution that Noise Free designed," the suit alleged.
Noise free claims that terms with Apple went very well and it was planned to add noise cancellation in the upcoming iPhones. Based on that, both the companies continued meeting even in 2008 and Noise free had even shared confidential data with Apple like the user guide on how to implement noise cancellation. Also, it had provided Apple with a fully functional circuit board along with a phone on which the technology was implemented. A documentation on technology was also shared with Apple.

Applepatents-lawsuits
According to Noise free, Apple had stopped communicating with Noise Free in 2009 and had conducted various unauthorized tests on the devices and had finally filed for a patent  for "User-specific noise suppression for voice quality improvements". Apple had re-designed the noise cancellation method used by Noise Free and implemented it in its own devices. Apple and Noise-Free continued talks until the latter discovered that Apple had chosen a different supplier for chip-set supplies.

In the complaint filed by Noise Free, Apple's iPhone4, iPhone4S and iPad, iPad2 and iPad3 along with iPod touch violates its patents and the complaint seeks courts help in granting Noise Free all those patents of Apple which are based on Noise-Free technology. Further more, it also seeks penalization for sharing trade confidential secrets against Apple.

Apple iPad Mini Rumors - Apple Asking Suppliers To Gear Up For Mass Production

Apple iPad Mini Rumors - Apple Asking Suppliers To Gear Up For Mass Production

iPad-mini

Earlier we shared that Apple is planning to launch a 7.85 inch iPad mini that will be competing with Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle Fire. Bloomberg has also confirmed that Apple is indeed going to launch a new iPad which would be slightly smaller that the current iPad which is 9.7 inch diagonally. Apple is apparently going to launch the new iPad mini with a smaller screen size and will be using IGZO display which give high brightness in a thinner display.

The rumors are mounting up as the Wall street journal reported that Apple is telling its suppliers to be prepared for mass production that will supply Apple iPad mini's components. Apple's component suppliers for iPad mini are LG Display Co. and AU Optronics Co. The two companies are likely to be the suppliers for the new iPad mini that we might see in October this year.

It has also been rumored that the new iPad mini would be priced in between $199 - $299 that will be directly aiming at Google's Nexus 7 and Amazon's Kindle. Apple's iPad has already conquered the tablet market globally and with iPad mini as an analyst said, would bring back Amazon's Kindle and Google's Nexus 7 to the point that they might expunge out just as in the case of iPad 2 and iPad 3. Apple's decision to go head on with Google seems like the differences between the two companies is filling in with competitive advantage over another.

Apple's Plea To Ban HTC Phones Denied - ITC Reject Emergency Ban On HTC Phones

Apple's Plea To Ban HTC Phones Denied - ITC Reject Emergency Ban On HTC Phones

Apple-HTC-Patent

Apple has recently won a big lawsuit filed against Samsung for infringement of Apple's Patents by blatantly copying not just the hardware of iPhone and iPad but also the UI and the extent of infrigement is that they even copied the packing and make the Samsung device look quite alot like that of Apple's iPad packing. The result is that Samsung Galaxy Tab is now banned in United States and that Samsung shall not promote any kind of selling of Galaxy tab in the United States which includes any kind of promotion or marketing.

Following victory over Samsung, Apple quickly filed a patent violation suit against HTC to ITC requesting for an emergency ban on its android devices. The patent violation with HTC devices is the use of Apple's data detectors patent which was earlier used in HTC android devices. However, HTC to avoid any damages, quickly responded by making the necessary changes. Despite the fact that HTC has changed the device, Apple still thinks that HTC is using data detectors that are patents of Apple. Apple's plea to ITC to inspect and impose an injunction over HTC android devices was not granted:

Here is what ITC Commisison said :
“The commission finds that Apple has not demonstrated the propriety of temporary emergency action here,” the agency reportedly said. “The commission will not direct Customs to detain all subject HTC products because the commission does not have the information necessary to determine whether the respondents are currently violating the commission’s limited exclusion order.”
The court has also ordered Apple and HTC to discuss the issue and that the talks will begin in late August. If Apple wins the injunction over HTC devices, it will adversely affect the sales of HTC as a majority of sales come from the United States and if the ban is imposed, HTC will have no good reason to survive with its most potential zone being lost. HTC have also reported that competition with iPhone4S was quite a challenging task and HTC faced heavy loss because of customers preferences shifting from HTC to Apple.

Food And Drink Category In AppStore Coming Soon - Apple's iOS 6 To Add More Categories In AppStore

Food And Drink Category In AppStore Coming Soon - Apple To Add More Categories In AppStore
AppStore-Food&Drink

Apple is planning to add new category of Apps in the iOS AppStore. Food and Drink is probably the new app's category that will be included soon in the iOS AppStore. iOS Application developers have already started receiving emails from Apple asking them to categorize their apps and if they have any related app to Food and Drink category it will automatically be moved to Food and Drink category if they don't take any action. Also, this will go live soon so developers have very little time to check their applications and get back to Apple if they do not want their applications to be moved.

The email from Apple to developers goes like this:
In the next fefw weeks, we'll be adding a Food & Drink category for apps that help users cook and backe, miz drinks, manage recipes, find new restaurants and bars and learn what their friends like to eat and drink. This category will not include diet, grocery shopping, coupon, clipping or food-related game apps.
We are contacting you because we think at least one of your apps fits in this new category. Unless you opt out by July8:

  • We will migrate your relevant apps to the new Food & Drink category.
  • Food & Drink will be assigned as the primary category for your apps.
If you have one or more apps that you want to staty in their current category, respond to this email with "NO" in the subject line, along with the following information for each app:
  • App name
  • Apple ID for your app. The Apple ID for apps can be found in the Manage Your Applications module on iTunes Connect.
Emails sent to other email addresses or without the requested information will not be processed.

Regards,
The App Store team
So if you are an Apple developer and have already received an email like this, you might want to respond to it before the end of this week if you want your app to stay where it is right now. Apple's plan to add the new category Food & Drink might soon be available for the public once it receives a nod from the developers. Moreover , iOS users will find is amazing to have a category of apps that will help them learn and improve their cooking and baking skills so they no longer have to go and attend the training sessions for such services.

As always we excited about the upcoming updates to iOS along with the big release of iOS6 that will be available soon.

Apple's iPad Dispute With Proview In China Setteled At 60 Million

Apple's iPad Dispute With Proview In China Setteled At 60 Million
Apple-iPAd-black-white
Associated press of China reports that Apple has agreed and settled iPad name dispute with Proview for 60 Million. Earlier before iPad, Apple had purchased the iPad name from Proview under Shell company. However, the name 'iPad' was never officially granted to Apple to be used in China. Finally both the parties have mutually agreed that Apple would pay 60 million to Proview for using the brand name iPad in China although the amount seems quite huge compared to the rumored amount of 16 million.

If Apple were to lose the right over using the name iPad for branding, marketing and sales of iPad then the cost of marketing and promoting a new name would cost Apple much more than 60 million so it seems like an opportunity cost for Apple to let go some amount to avoid big loss.

With the dispute finally settled, we can expect Apple to begin its iPad sales in China at large. With the new iOS6 and Apple's decision to add baidu as default search engine for Chinese devices, it is very clear that Apple is very interested in the Chinese market and will be investing more in the country which assemblies world's best smartphones and tablets.
