iOS 7.0.6 iTunes Restore Error 3 - Unable to restore iPhone 5

iOS 7.0.6 iTunes Restore Error Message 3 - Failed to restore iPhone 5

Apple has recently pushed iOS 7.0.6 update to fix the SSL security bug. However, there seems to be an issue when trying to restore a device on iOS 7.0.6.

My iPhone 5, stopped showing the cellular information and after all the attempts to get back the network like resetting the network settings and resetting all the settings, I thought I should try restoring the device. Here is what I did to restore the iPhone 5:

  1. Connected the iPhone 5 to the computer.
  2. Launched iTunes, updated iTunes to the latest version
  3. Clicked on the restore button.
  4. iTunes downloaded iOS 7.0.6 and the restore process started.
  5. Everything went smooth and at the end the process got stuck at 99.9% as seen in the below screenshot.
  6. Then iTunes error message 3 popped up.
  7. Later, I tried uninstalling and re installing iTunes, checked the host files, removed everything from the host files, rebooted the computer but I still get the same error.
I've tried checking the forums but there isn't any solution. It is discussed on this thread that the issue is about flash storage and there's nothing that the user can do other than reaching out to the Apple Care.

I'm also attaching the log file of the failed restore, so it could be helpful to anyone who can offer a solution.

This is the present state of my iPhone 5. If anyone else is facing the same issue, please add the details in the comments section below.

iPhone 5 Is UK's First LTE Smartphone - LTE To Start From October 30

iPhone 5 Is UK's First LTE Smartphone - LTE To Start From October 30

iPhone 5 - UK's First LTE Smartphone

Recent developments indicate that UK consumers may be able to use LTE much sooner than anticipated, and the iPhone 5 will be one of the only LTE phones available in the UK when LTE goes live later this month.

Slow Progress
The United Kingdom is a bit behind other countries when it comes to updating its communications infrastructure. The upgrade to LTE has been hampered in the UK due to a combination dithering politicians and regulatory bodies, but recently with the announcement of the new network EE, development has started to pick up pace.

LTE could not be introduced into the UK earlier because all of the existing radio spectrum was already in use. With the demise of analogue TV the government announced plans to auction the newly available chunks of radio spectrum to the UK networks, but has been very slow in getting the auction organised.

Everything Everywhere
Everything Everywhere, which is the partnership between two major UK networks, Orange and T-Mobile, already had some of its existing radio spectrum which was not being used, and was granted permission by the regulatory body Ofcom to start offering LTE prior to the official 4G auction.

This move means that the UK has gone from barely a glimpse of 4G on the horizon to most likely having LTE services available within a month.

Auction to be Brought Forward
The advantage that EE has gained in setting up its LTE networks early has angered its leading competitors, who have forced the government to introduce the auction much sooner. If current talks are effective, EE's main competitors could also be offering LTE by the end of 2012.

But because for a long time LTE has seemed like a far-off fantasy, there are currently few handsets in the UK that offer LTE compatibility. Earlier LTE phones, like the Motorola Atrix and the Samsung Galaxy S3, had their LTE support removed when they were released in Britain.

iPhone 5 Currently Offers LTE
Because of this, the new iPhone's timely launch just before EE begins to offer LTE means that it could be the first phone in the UK to enjoy 4G download speeds. EE will offer a small number of other devices, from HTC and Nokia, as well as a re-released Galaxy S3, but many existing Orange and T-Mobile iPhone 5 owners will be able to switch over to EE on the day it goes live rather than having to wait for a new phone to be delivered.

EE will start to offer LTE at the end of October while other networks are yet to confirm when their 4G services will become available.

Apple’s All New Lightning Connector - Everything You Need To Know

Apple’s All New Lightning Connector - Everything You Need To Know

The new iPhone 5, along with the new iPods, comes with a new connector that Apple has named the Lightning connector. This 8 pin connector is much smaller than the previous 30 pin connector that Apple has been using for the past decade or so. This big yet subtle change in the dock connector will directly affect all those who already own any of the Apple devices and of course those who purchase the new ones. If you happen to want to use your Apple accessories for the new iPhone 5, you will have to buy an adapter. The other alternative is to purchase the new accessories that are coming out in the fall for the new ions devices.

New Lightening Connector From Apple

According to Apple, the new connector has some serious benefits to offer :
  • The reduction in size (by an exact 80%) means that Apple gets the chance to fit many more components into the brand new better than ever iPhone 5
  • The connector is reversible, so you need not worry about which is the right side to plug in.
  • The data flow will be faster with the new cable.
  • The change is quite annoying for a number of existing Apple customers. Buying a converter will cost you $30 at least, and the lightning/ USB cable comes for $20. But, in all fairness, this measure is not a way to force people to buy something new; Apple has been pretty consistently merciless in term of adopting the latest and chucking out outdated technology.
Apple will make a bit of benefit on its new sales of course. The accessories market for iPods, iPads and iPhones pulls in a significant percentage of revenue. According to some estimates, Apple purchased accessories worth $2-$3 billion in fiscal the previous year. Moreover, much of the accessories mad by Apple, such as adapters and cables, are pretty much pure profit considering they cost very little to make in the first place.

The new dock also means that some of the third-party accessory manufacturers get opportunities to sell new docks, cases, chargers and all kinds of accessories that are connected via the port at the bottom of the iPhone/ iPod.  These accessories will become available with major brands such as Bowers & Wilkins, Bose and JBL around the holidays.

Therefore, the new iPad is the only Apple device of the current generation to be using the 30 pin connector. This will obviously change soon, since any move made by Apple with one device rolls out to the others as well.

iPhone 5 Unlock Available For $50 - Apple N Berry Starts Selling iPhone 5 Unlock

iPhone 5 Unlock Available For $50 - Apple N Berry Starts Selling iPhone 5 Unlock

iPhone 5 Unlock

Apple has finally unleashed the iPhone 5 which is been the most awaited device of all. The device is already selling like hot cakes thanks to the 4" display and the redesigned physical appearance of the device that has been the reason for many new buyers to opt for iPhone 5. With more and more carriers offering the shiny apple device on contract allowing users to get their hands on the new smartphone. Although most of the iPhone users that are entangled in the carrier contracts are fine with the tenure, there are certain who wish to use the iPhone 5 on their existing numbers and wouldn't want to switch to other carriers.

That is where unlock comes into existence. Since iPhones bought on contract are locked on the carrier on which they have been bought on, users have to unlock it in order to user it on other networks. AT&T has started unlocking the device if you pay the entire contract amount or if you have completed the 2yr contract period without having any bad remark in the payment history. Users have to ultimately rely on 3rd party unlock providers that sometimes work.
  • For iPhone 3G and 3GS the iPhone Dev-Team has released an unlock called ultrasn0w however the dev team was unable to unlock the successor of iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 which was impossible to unlock if the baseband gets upgraded past 2.10
  • To save iPhone 4 users, a sim interposer called Gevey appeared in the market that allowed iPhone 4 users to unlock their devices following certain set of instructions and by dialing an emergency number that unlocked the iPhone. This method of unlocking was however patched with iOS 5.1.1 but it still works on the condition that you install a custom firmware that does not upgrade your baseband.
  • Similarly to unlock iPhone 4S, the very same sim interposer with advanced functionality appeared. Gevey sim ultra that allowed iPhone 4S users to unlock their shiny apple device to be able to use it on any carrier they like.
iPhone 5 unlock ? Apple n Berry the very trader who started selling gevey sim interposers have mentioned on the website that they are providing iPhone 5 IMEI unlock for $50 with money back guarantee. However, the unlock for iPhone 5 is limited to AT&T users only. So if you are an AT&T iPhone 5 user who wants to unlock the device to use on other carriers, head over to the Apple N Berry website for the unlock. If you are wondering if this is another scam website, you should check the positive reviews that the website has received with over 80 delighted customers thanking the provider for the unlock.

Apple N Berry States
Apple N Berry, LLC now offers iPhone IMEI unlock for all AT&T iPhone models, including iPhone 5! Apple N Berry iPhone IMEI unlock is a permanent iPhone unlock solution. Once unlocked, your iPhone will remain unlocked even after an iOS upgrade or SIM card swap. IMEI unlocks are considered an iPhone factory unlock that works with any AT&T iPhone model 3G, 3GS, 4, 4S, and iPhone 5 regardless of baseband. Apple N Berry, LLC has heard our customers and have been working hard to bring you a new unlock solution. Our IMEI solution is not a GEVEY™ product and requires no extra software or hardware to unlock your iPhone.

iPhone 5 Ringtones - How To Manually Create And Add Ringtones In iPhone 5

iPhone 5 Ringtones - How To Manually Create And Add Ringtones In iPhone 5

ring.tones - iPhone 5 app

If you are one of the new iPhone 5 users, you might be wondering if it is possible to create and add ringtones from your music collection and if you could do that easily. Well, the answer is yes but its a bit tricky. It might come as a shock to you that you cannot simply create a ringtone from the music app and add to the list of ringtones that you have. Unlike how easy it is to create ringtones in android right from your music, you need to have a ringtone maker app for iPhone to be able to create and add the ringtones. I'm going to discuss some popular and free ringtone apps that help you design ringtones for iPhone 5.

Creating And Adding Ringtones In iPhone 5

The app that I've used in creating ringtone is Rinntones #1 which is freely available in AppStore.
Download Link

Step 1 : Download the app ring.tone from the App Store. If you don't have a credit card and would like to create an Apple account follow the guide here

Step 2 : Select the song from your music that you'd like to edit and set as ringtone.

Step 3 : Customize the length and the starting and ending point of the ringtone. You can also add fade-in and fade-out effects.

Step 4 : Save the ringtone.

Step 5 : Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes.

Step 6 : Wait for iTunes to list your iPhone 5 and once it does click on it.

Step 7 : Click on the apps tab

Step 8 : Scroll down and from the list of applications, select the application that you have used to create the ringtone. You should see a .m4a extension file which is the ringtone that you have just created.

Step 9 : Click on the ringtone and select the option "save as" to save in your computer.

Step 10 : Go to the ringtones tab in iTunes and drag and drop the ringtone that you have downloaded into your computer from the iPhone.

Step 11 : That's it, once sync is complete you should be able to see the newly created ringtone in your iPhone in settings/general/sounds/ringtones folder

If you have any trouble, feel free to leave a comment and make sure you mention the application that you have used so I can test it.

iPhone 5 iOS 6 Jailbreak Achieved - Chpwn Jailbreaks iOS 6 Running On iPhone 5

iPhone 5 iOS 6 Jailbreak Achieved - Chpwn Jailbreaks iOS 6 Running On iPhone 5

Apple has commercially launched the next generation iPhone 5 yesterday and to make this launch even more exciting, popular jailbreak developer chpwn has confirmed that he was successful in jailbreaking his iPhone 5, yes that's true! The developer has also posted a screenshot from his iPhone 5 showing Cydia icon that appears only after the device is jailbroken.

Right after sharing the above pic on twitter, followers started doubting his work so Chpwn has uploaded even more pics that not just confirms that its iPhone 5 but also that it is jailbroken. There is no ETA on when the jailbreak will be available for public. Last time after the release of iOS 5, it was Pod2G to work on the jailbreak and released it during the conference where the chronic dev team gave a talk on the process of jailbreak and "Absinthe" jailbreak tool was announced right after the event.

It usually takes another 2-3 months after the initial success of jailbreak as it needs to be checked on various available models and then it needs to be incorporated into a user friendly executable file so that it becomes easy for the users to jailbreak their device. Make sure you follow us to stay updated with the latest news on jailbreak development of iOS6.

Apple Files A complaint To Gain Control Of - Apple's Intellectual Property

Apple Files A Claim To Control Domain - Likely To Name The Next iPhone as iPhone 5

Fusible reports that Apple has filed an intellectual property claim with world Intellectual Property Organization to gain control of the domain This website is basically a small forum to discuss about the rumors of upcoming iPhone, in this case iPhone 5 as this domain was acquired in October 2010 after the release of iPhone 4. Seems like Apple is going to name the next iPhone as iPhone 5 and hence they are starting to work on the brand name.

i Phone 5 launch apple

Apple iPhone5 launch

Before the release of iPhone 4S, there were many rumors that Apple will name the iPhone as iPhone 5 while some where of the opinion that the name would be simply iPhone 4S. Eventually the name turned out to be iPhone 4S. The same thing happened with the new iPad. People thought that the name for the next generation iPad would be iPad 3 but it turned out to be 'The New iPad'. Now that Apple is on its way to release a new iPhone, the speculations and rumors have started all over again. People now think that the name for the new iPhone would be simply 'The New iPhone' inspired from the original iPhone. Lets wait and watch.

Apple usually obtains the domain names after it launches a product which would ensure no disclosure of upcoming releases. Apple took control of 1 yeah after the launch of  iPhone 4 and Apple didn't gain control of until several weeks after that device launched in October.

Next Gen iPhone To Have In-Cell Touch Panels

Next Generation iPhone Adopt In-Touch Panels - Digitimes

According to Digitimes, the next Apple iPhone would use Touch Panels manufactured by Sharp and Toshiba.

An improvement in yield rates of the in-cell touch panels at Sharp and TMD has persuaded Apple to choose to cooperate with Japan-based panel makers. Sharp will produce the in-cell panels at its 5.5G lines, while TMD will utilize its 6G lines for production, indicated the sources, adding that the two makers will begin to ramp up in-cell panel production in the second quarter of 2012. - Digitimes

We might see a different display in the new iPhone 5 which should keep up the brand standard with the Hi-Res Retina Display and crispier text, not to mention the stunning gaming experience.

According to CNET - In-cell multitouch technology integrates touch into the thin-film transistor (TFT) LCD manufacturing process, obviating the need for additional sensors and glass. This reduces the weight of the device, among other benefits.

To wrap up the topic, Apple is testing new display for the upcoming iPhone 5 which could likely release after the WWDC event, somewhere in June just like the release of its predecessor iPhone 4S.

AT&T To Unlock Contract iPhones From 8th Of April

Starting This Sunday, AT&T Will Unlock Contract iPhones

AT&T has made an official announcement that the wireless giant will unlock those iPhones which have completed the 2yr contract period. Starting from 8th April, this Sunday, AT&T customers who have been using the service contract for over 2 years can get their iPhones to the nearest AT&T help center to get the iPhones unlocked. Previously, customers who finished the terms of their two-year contract with AT&T had an iPhone that could not be unlocked through official avenues. That meant even though they were free to leave for another carrier, they could not bring their iPhone with them.

AT&T iPhone4S unlock

The following is the statement issued by AT&T
Beginning Sunday, April 8, we will offer qualifying customers the ability to unlock their AT&T iPhones. The only requirements are that a customer’s account must be in good standing, their device cannot be associated with a current and active term commitment on an AT&T customer account, and they need to have fulfilled their contract term, upgraded under one of our upgrade policies or paid an early termination fee.

Last month there was an incident due to which CEO Tim Cook advised AT&T to unlock an angry customer's iPhone 3GS because he was moving outside The United States. So, basically in response to the complaints from angry customers, AT&T decided to take a step ahead and unlock the iPhones of those customers who have completed the course of their contract, or, paid to have the contract terminated, or, upgraded to a new device, and are up-to-date with payments, then the company will willingly unlock your iPhone so that it can be used with any other carrier.

AT&T Contract iPhone unlock

This is obviously good news for any AT&T iPhone owners.

The iPhone 4S can also be purchased unlocked and contract-free direct from Apple. It is available priced at $649 for the 16-gigabyte model, $749 for 32 gigabytes, and $849 for 64 gigabytes.

High School Kids Use iPhones 3 Times More Than The General Population

High School Kids Use iPhones 3 Times More Than Adults Do

According to a survey conducted by Piper Jaffray of 5,600 U.S. high school students, 34% of own an iPhone, an all-time high in the survey and double the percentage seen just a year ago. Furthermore, 40% of surveyed students indicated that they intend to purchase an iPhone within the next six months.

how to
"In our most recent survey the percentage of teens that own an iPhone came in at 34%, up from 23% in the Fall and 17% last Spring. We believe the meaningful uptick in iPhone ownership among teens may be driven by the cheaper $49 iPhone 3GS (in some cases free). Interest in purchasing an iPhone in the next 6 months rose to 40% (another all-time high vs. our previous surveys). Purchase intent was at 38% in our last survey in the Fall."

iphone for students

In our Spring 2012 survey, 34% of students owned a tablet computer (same percentage as iPhones), up from 29% in Fall 2011 and 22% last Spring. Of those tablet owners, 70% owned iPads, 19% owned Android tablets, and 11% owned Kindle Fires. 53% of iPad owners also owned an iPhone, demonstrating the halo effect of entry devices like the iPhone.

Seems like apple did revolutionized the entire PC era into a post PC era where smart phones and tablets are used more than computers and tablets.

iSleepWell Automatically Switches Into Airplane Mode When Its Placed Face Down

iOS Tweak To Automatically Switch Your iPhone Into Airplane Mode

Developer xvolks is not new to jailbreak and cydia tweaks. His contribution to Corona jailbreak is widely appreciated. There used to be some issue with the jailbreak that disabled iBooks in jailbroken iOS devices. Xvolks patch made iBooks work on iOS deivices. His work on iBooks can be seen here.

cydia tweak iSleepwell for iPhone

iSleepWell is a tweak by Xvolks that has just hit Cydia and brings with it a feature set that attempts to give the user a good night sleep. The application uses a simple method of deactivating all radios, in other words, setting Airplane mode to on through a simple detection routine.

iSleepWell is useful to turn airplane mode ON when going to bed (for example) by just putting your iDevice beside you on the screen side. It detects that position and turns off all radios. You can sleep without being disturb by unsolicited calls and you are not bombarded by negative waves. Many parameters can be changed. iOS devices comes built in with a number of hardware sensors that can detect the orientation of the phone, allowing certain things to happen for each state it may be in. iSleepWell uses this hardware capability and turns off all radios when the device is placed screen down on a surface.

cydia app review iSleepwell

Features Of iSleepWell:

Enabled : if ON (default), iSleepWell will detect the sleep position and react as expected. If OFF, it does nearly nothing except waiting to go ON.

Play Sound : when the airplane mode is about to be triggered the device says Airplane mode enabled. This let you put it on the right side to prevent the mode change.
When you take back the device in your hand, the device says Back to normal.
If OFF, no sound is played.

Vibrate : when airplane mode is actually changed, the device vibrates if ON.

Scan interval : iSleepWell polls the accelerometer state each X seconds : 5 and 10 are good choices.

Screen down : by default you have to put the device on the screen to trigger the airplane mode. you can change that behavior by setting this switch to OFF. Useful to test and see the plane too...

Active on sleep mode : when you let your device without using it at all, it goes to suspend state and the applications receive no CPU time from iOS. This switch set to ON awakes to device every 15 minutes to check if the position have changed. So turning your device may not trigger the airplane mode right now if it is in hibernation. This will consume very few battery.
You can set it to OFF if you fear for your battery, but I did not notice significant change.

Disable on manual change : if you set Airplane mode by yourself (when you are aboard a plane ;)), iSleepWell will detect this state and will disable itself until you reenables the radios by yourself.
Setting this to OFF, will let iSleepWell to reenable the radios. It's safer to let this to ON.

Prevent from running : if set to ON, iSleepWell will exit completely and will be unable to do anything. The only ways to relaunch it is to respring or reboot the device after putting this toggle to OFF.

You can get iSleepWell from the Cydia Store for $0.99.

how to untethered jailbreak ios 5.1

Apple added over 200 updates when it released iOS 5. One of those 200 updates is the application iMessage. This application enables any iOS user to communicate with any other iOS user via messages. The good thing is,  iMessage is free and the bad news is that you cannot attach anything other than images through iMessages.

Dany Lisiansky, a cydia app developer has created a tweak that enables sending any file through iMessages.

Features of Attacher
  • Send and Receive any attachment with iMessage
  • Open any received attachment.
  • Attach and send any type of file.
  • Record and attach voice memos.
  • "Listen before attaching" switch in Settings > Attacher.
  • Customize voice memo's name in Settings > Attacher.

As long as the SHSH blobs are saved, it is possible to downgrade the firmware of any A5 device, He claims that it would be possible to downgrade the new A5X devices too once the firmware updates are available. iH8sn0w is the creator and author of various jailbreaking related tools lilke, Sn0wbreeze, iReb, iBooty, iFaith. Here is what iH8sn0w tweeted:

iH8sn0w downgrade 5.1 firmware to 5.0.1

This is a great news for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 users as they no longer need to fear an upgrade every time they restore their device. Generally if  there is any problem with your device the only option to fix it was a clean software restore from iTunes but doing so, the users lose the jailbreak for ever unless otherwise a new jailbreak is out.

Great Job iH8sn0w and Happy 2nd Birthday Sn0wbreeze...
